Believe in Wisconsin Again

What do you think of my plan to create 250,000 jobs during my first term?

“If you elect me as your next Governor, I’ll get government out of the way and lower the tax burden so Wisconsin business owners and factories can create 250,000 jobs and 10,000 businesses in our state by 2015,” said Walker.

Walker's six-step plan to help Wisconsin businesses create 250,000 new jobs and 10,000 new businesses by 2015:

1 – Lower Taxes “I want to lower the tax on employers, lower the tax on income, freeze property taxes and phase out retirement income taxes.  States that have a lower tax burden have more jobs and better budgets, and its time Wisconsin was a better state to do business.”

2 – Less Regulations “State agencies should be more responsive to the customer and standards must be science-based and predictable.”

3 – End Frivolous Lawsuits “Luckily, we stopped the Governor’s changes in joint and several liability, but we need to do more to block frivolous lawsuits, and we need true tort reform to help lower health care costs.”

4 – Better Education “We need a strong education system with more accountability and more tools to prepare our future workforce.  And it means giving our UW System the tools to operate more like a business to pursue economic development.”

5 – Improve Healthcare “We need help for employers to be able to afford the costs of providing health care without government taking total control.  That means eliminating the state tax on Health Savings Accounts.  It means full disclosure on medical procedures.  And it means helping employers tap into larger purchasing pools to share the risk.  Most importantly, it means finding new ways for everyone to get some skin in the game so we work on improving our health which will ultimately lead to lower costs.”

6 – Strong Infrastructure “Reliable energy sources and dependable transportation links are the final piece to our plan.”

“Unlike my opponents, I believe that people create jobs, not government.  By enacting my plan, we will be able to get government out of the way of employers big and small who will then help Wisconsin create 250,000 jobs by 2015, and as we create those new jobs, we will be able to add 10,000 new businesses.”

Scott Walker serves as Milwaukee County executive and approaches his county budget the same way he approaches his family budget - cutting out waste and doing more with less.  Walker has cut the county debt by 10%, reducing the workforce by more than 20%, and has authored eight consecutive budgets without increasing the property tax levy from the previous year.  And when he and his wife Tonette realized the county executive made more money than the governor, they thought that wasn’t right, so dating back to his election in 2002, they have given back over $370,000 of his salary back to the county.

Recently, Walker kicked off his brown bag lunch tour and new website, www.brownbagmovement.com, to outline his Brown Bag Guide to Government:

  • Don’t spend more than you have.
  • Smaller government is better government.
  • People create jobs, not government.

Scott Walker packs his own brown bag lunch each day before heading to the office (two ham and cheese sandwiches on wheat), and drives a 1998 Saturn with 100,000 miles to cut back on costs.  Scott and Tonette Walker live in Wauwatosa with their two high school aged sons, Matt and Alex.

The real common good...

Donating through taxes is not the way to progress the common good. I agree with Scott Walker's plan to spur the economy of Wisconsin. We are already the best in the Midwest for tourists, we should strive to be the best for business as well. People need to realize that trying to vote themselves benefits from the government hurts everyone and only when the channels for commerce are open will prosperity flow more freely to more people. That truly progresses the common good.

Taxation

If you want to be a leader and be real with people, tell us you are going to raise taxes and cut spending. True conservative philosophy relies on the increased ability of more local governments to meet the needs of citizens. More local means better efficiency and citizen control. The oversimplified notion that less taxation is better when we already operate in a deficit is absurd and no one truely believes this. No candidate - republican or democrat - has been able to unilaterally cut spending all by him/herself. In addition, capping local spending is the opposite of conservative thought. If the logic holds, lets just do away with all local and state taxation and rely on Washington to supply all our needs...

In the past years, less taxes has meant big cuts for those with incomes far greater than working class americans. Be real. Tell us the truth. I'll take the hit if we can get our state out of the red and on a balanced budget.

Wisconsin Employment

I was forced to move from Wisconsin due to the lack of jobs. My company moved from the area requiring me to do the same. The tax disaster in WI really came to light when I saw the difference in what I was paying versus now. I now pay much less in property tax, income tax as well as consumer taxes and fees, while making a higher income. I see why companies are moving from the area. I hope WI can begin to turn things around in this next election cycle, but you have a long way to go. Good luck, I hope WI doesn't become as disastrous financially as our neighbor to the East.

Too much government!

It's time for all of us who have been silent (majority) to stand up and get involved in taking back our country with less government and more common sense.

Be our HOPE and CHANGE Scott!

As a current Marquette University student nearing graduation, the future of this state (under the current Doyle/Feingold/Barrett regime)is a frightening prospect. Many of my peers have abandoned the notion of working in a state where we are expected to settle for the status quo (high taxes, a barren job market, and enough political corruption/stupidity to sink a ship). However, unlike my peers, I BELIEVE in Wisconsin. I BELIEVE that we can compete for business and that we can become a national beacon of reform under the leadership of Scott Walker. We need to take a "brown-bag" approach to government; a welcome change from our metaphorical "white-linen tablecloth" past.

Walker walks the walk

I have observed Scott Walker perform within an uncooperative and obstructive county government. Scott has always been up front with his ideas and intentions and backs his words with action. I believe that if it not for Scott, Milwaukee County would be burdened by tax and spending beyond its ability to support it. In fact, I believe that Scott has had more impact on the city of Milwaukee than Milwaukee's mayor. As Milwaukee goes, so goes Wisconsin. If we want Wisconsin to be returned to its people then Scott Walker needs to be in Madison.

Sales Tax

I don't understand why you wouldn't say "YES" to a 0.5% sales tax to help the MIlwaukee County's bus system. You talk about creating new jobs but how do you plan on people getting to those jobs.

I don't drive and I have to say its a struggle for me to get to my job every evening. I don't have bus routes around me and the flyer bus stops before I start my 5-midnight shift M-F.

Milwaukee County had to problem okaying a sales tax for the stadium. I don't understand that one at all. The Brewers are a business, why didn't they just pay for the whole stadium?

People had no problem saying "YES" to the tax increase to support the bus system when voting. Why would you go against your Constituents.

Property taxes just keeping going up every year. Maybe its time to get from someone other than a property ownwer.

Why not have everyone help pay for our bus system through the county sales tax.

Thank you very much

Creating 250K jobs in 1st term

I admire your ambition. I along with others I know have said that is what is killing our economy in this state. What company would want to make things here. I love this climate and this state, but it is overtaxed. I hope you get the support you need and are ready to fight. Best of Luck!

New Ideas

Wisconsin has been stuck in a rut for the past 8 years and it has been "business as usual" with politicians. I think Scott could bring a breath of fresh air and new ideas/a responsible way of thinking to our state government. Also, Scott wants Wisconsin to be competitive for businesses. What is the first step of creating better quality of life? Good paying jobs. How do we attract businesses? How do we keep businesses? How can we diversify our state economy? Our state is incubating a hotbed of biotech with UW in Madison. How can we make that grow and make that a destination for biotech companies? How can we control spending to lower taxes, so people don't want to move?

This state cannot continue doing what it has been doing. I hope we all recognize this and give Scott the opportunity to fix our state.

Take Back our State's Rights

I believe in Scott Walker.

The solution is simple. Take back the State's rights from the federal government. Tell Washington, thank you very much but we will govern ourselves with respect to the rights reserved by the Constitution.

We have no control over California or any other state's budget or fiscal policy. We don't need Washington to redistribute our taxes.

Washington is not the solution to Wisconsin's problems, Washington is the problem.

Bring businesses back

We need to bring businesses back to Wisconsin. There is such potential in so many areas, particularly the Fox Valley that jacking up taxes and 'fees' is shooting our economy in the foot. If business come back, so will the jobs.

Jobs Plans

A very good, real plan. Democrats beleive if you tax some goods, energy, cigaretts, liquor, soda, plastic bags etc. you get less of them, yet when we tax businesses directly or indirectly through regulation effecting jobs nothing happens. We all know better, it is time to move forward on job creation.

250,000 would be a good start

I have a college degree and I have been out of work for a year now. I have put in over 1500 applications had 9 interviews and still no freaking job. I have been told by a bar owner I know that he won't hire anyone with a college degree because the minute the economy gets better, the graduate is gone. One interview I had was so stringent that I talked to not only the store manager, a corporate recruiter, and have one more interview to go. Companies are very picky at this point because they can be or have to be. Some companies don't really care. They can cycle people in and out right now. I do agree with the cut the spending plan. Congress spent 50 million a couple weeks ago on a freaking new national park plan in St. Croix to help boost tourism. Who the hell has money for a vacation right now? If the govt. had made jobs with that, they could have put 2500 people to work for about 20000 a year. It would have helped someone, not a piece of dirt that will still be there next year. I am fed up with all the sunshine blowing from most politicians. Either you start helping the people or you are out.

Business Climate and Taxation

I believe Scott is the only one on the right path.

We must control state spending. As a citizen each time taxes are raised I have less to spend, why can't Madison figure this out. The more income people can retain, the more they can save or spend on what they need rather the state spending on more programs that we do not need.

Income and realestate taxes here are insane, our retired citizens are leaving every day to avoid the Wisconsin Tax Hell, Madison has created.

Only business can create jobs. This State must be Business Friendly.
Wisconsin has a great labor force. We need business to take advantage of this resource.

Energy is all important, it must be affordable. If we are going to bring new business to this state we need to give them a very good reason to come here, and an even better reason to stay.

It is a easy solution, simply reverse all the things that got us in this mess, stop spending and lower taxes. We need common sense back in this state. I seems most of state government couldn't organize a two float parade.

Go Scott Go!

250K Jobs

Its time ! It is time for a model to emerge in our nation that demonstrates common sense. Economics is not vodoo or religion likened unto what the left must practice when trying to legislate for the betterment of the American people. My God...ecnonomics is math in action. Numbers do add up and you can make numbers subtract. When you add, increase must take place. When you take away, peoples jobs go away.

As a business owner in Wisconsin, I get to see first hand what taxation and overspending by the government has done to our market place. People are not spending their money on projects they did a year ago. Their is fear among the middle class as they watch Washington DC and Madison. They have no confidence that our economic state will be better in the near future. It is a policy problem.

I have a son who has been un-employed for over a year and probably will continue to be un-employed for at least another year or two. Not a lot of hope out there for him and certainly things have changed. His union endorsed the hope and change specialist in the now seated president. Oooops! There are well over 600 unemployed union electricians at the time of my op. The union is projecting 2012 as the year of turn around. That in my mind will depend.

The economoic environment of our state has been maliciously torn apart by legislators who either knew what they were doing or don't have any common sense.

I am fully expecting Scott Walker to turn this around in Wisconsin and develop a national model that will embarass Washington DC and expose liberalism for what it really is. The mask is off now and we are going to get to see how well conservative politics works. It will change the momentum of our nation.

taxes, jobs and entitlements

Unless we deals with all 3 of these things, it will be hard to see progress. I am glad to see someone who has real ideas and the guts to see them through.

It is like I say to my 4 children; "it is easy to make a mess. The hard part comes when you have to clean it up! If you don't want to clean up your mess, don't make one."
