?Tells Crowd, “I will stop this train boondoggle in its tracks”

Wauwatosa – Today, wealthy donors paid $10,000 for the opportunity to have their picture taken with Barack Obama and Tom Barrett, Obama’s handpicked candidate to replace Gov. Doyle.  Meanwhile, Scott Walker and hundreds of grassroots supporters held a Brown Bag rally, with a backdrop of the crumbling Hoan Bridge, against the wasteful $810 million high speed train.

“President Obama and his Administration have sent a message to the people of Wisconsin that their opinion doesn’t matter,” said Walker.  “They think they can spend $810 million of our money to build a train we don’t want.  They say we can’t stop this train.  I say ‘Yes We Can,’ and if I’m elected governor, I will stop this train boondoggle and advocate spending the money on roads and bridges instead.”

Scott Walker also released a new TV commercial today entitled, “Yes We Can,” that focuses on the proposed train.  He also launched a new website, www.notrain.com where Wisconsin families can petition against the train.

Scott Walker has a record of standing up for taxpayers against wasteful spending and high taxes.  He was elected Milwaukee County executive on a wave of reform, after a pension scandal revealed government workers were walking away with millions in taxpayer money.  Since then, he has introduced eight consecutive budgets without a tax levy increase from the previous year, cut the debt by 10%, reduced the workforce by 20%, and had an $8.9 million surplus in his most recent budget.

As Milwaukee County executive, Scott Walker has given back $370,000 of his personal salary to the taxpayers over eight years, voluntarily reduced his own pension benefit, and in his most recent budget, successfully worked on a bipartisan proposal that asked county employees to contribute to their government financed healthcare plans, saving millions for the taxpayers.

Scott and his wife Tonette live in Wauwatosa with their two sons, Matt and Alex.
