“I don’t blame Wisconsin deer hunters for their anger against the current herd management practices under the Doyle Administration.  As a hunter myself, I’m angry too.

For far too long, Governor Doyle has allowed the Department of Natural Resources Managers (DNR) and the Natural Resources Board to be run by individuals with little or no connection or commitment to upholding our state’s great sporting traditions.  The overregulation and bureaucratic burden place on hunters by the DNR is destroying our families’ hunting traditions and discouraging new hunters from taking up our sport.

The DNR’s continued mismanagement and lack of science-based practices has eroded the confidence of the very people who fund the conservation of our state’s natural resources - our sportsmen and women – and jeopardized a sport that has a $ 1 billion impact on our economy.  I call on the legislature to hold both Governor Doyle and DNR management accountable, and ask for an outside audit of our herd management practices.”
