A candidate for governor says Jim Doyle's decision this week won't change his approach.
Republican gubernatorial candidate Scott Walker was in western Wisconsin Friday and spent part of the day with employees at Marten Transport. News 18 caught up with him before that and asked the Republican about his reaction to the news that Governor Doyle would not seek a third term.
"All of us thought if he'd leave, it would be to take a job in the president's administration. The fact that he's not running and he's staying to serve his term, I think is a shock to everybody, Democrat and Republican alike," says Walker. "How does it change things? From our standpoint, it doesn't. On April 28th, I was here in Altoona talking to voters in the Chippewa Valley, telling people my focus was going to be on jobs and getting this state working again. Today, it's the same focus."
Walker has been Milwaukee County executive for several years. He says as governor he would focus on cutting taxes. He says Wisconsin has too many people who go south and not just for a month or two during the winter. He says Wisconsin's tax climate is pushing a lot of people out of the state.
